The ITV adaptations of Agatha Christie’s Poirot detective stories are a feast for the eye: highly stylised and with a knack for detail.
The fussy foppish Belgian detective is forgiven for being a bit over the top, but the remaining characters are dressed in clothes emblematic of the interwar period.
I particularly approved of the strong deployment of a red waistcoat by a schoolteacher in “Cat Among the Pigeons”, seen here.

Sometimes you need to add just a small shock of colour to an otherwise quotidian outfit.
Belts, such as these from Austin Reed, are an excellent way to do that without frightening the horses.
Amongst the great American outfitters, the name of LL Bean ranks highly. Simple reliable designs and probably the best reputation for customer service make for a good combination.
